Recent Performances

During the 1998-1999 season, the Singers performances in public included the following:

Messe de Minuit by Charpentier

Missa Sancti Nocolai by Joseph Haydn

Magnificat by Pergolesi

Laudate Dominum by Monteverdi

Requiem in D Minor by Bruckner

There was also the annual Christmas Carol concert and the Singers appeared at the Aghia Paraskevi Choir Festival.

The Athens Singers performed on seven occasions during the 1999/2000 season.

These started off with An Evening of English Music, subtitled "From Byrd to the Beatles" which took place on the 13th November, 1999 at the Holargos Cultural Centre.

On the 14th December, we gave our annual Carol Concert in the main auditorium of the Holargos Cultural Centre. This annual event always includes a range of well-known carols and Christmas songs as well as a few not so well known and a few "old favourites" for the audience to join in on.

A few days later the Singers gave a selection of carols at the British Ambassadors Christmas Party and another selection was performed at the Christmas Dinner of the Swedish Club marine insurers which was held at the Piraeus Yacht Club.

As usual, the main concert of the season was performed just before Easter, on the 19th April 2000. Together with an orchestra of 35, we performed Brahms' "Ein Deutsches Requiem" at the Greek Evangelical Church, Amalias, Athens.

After Easter the Singers took part in the 6th Piraeus Choir Festival where we performed a short selection of our current season's repertoire and, on the 14th June the Singers started off the "Athens Glyndebourne", an evening of musical entertainment a fresco held in the garden of the South African Ambassador's residence in Psychico.

Finally, we had an enthusiastic, if not so perfectly prepared, sing at our end-of season party held in the beautiful yard of the Epistrofi Gallery in Psiri, central Athens.
